- Rigshospitalet has a medical unit that handles organ transplantation of heart, lungs, liver, kidney and pancreas. This takes place by e.g. to transport a medical team from Rigshospitalet to another hospital where the donor is located and back again within a short time (approx. 6-12 hours).
Medical teamone is transported by land from Rigshospitalet to Kastrup airport and then flown to another airport, after which they are driven to the hospital where organ removal takes place or. When the organ has been removed, the medical team returns with the organ in a similar way to the trip. In some cases, ogiven only in picking up an organ.
